Learn about the technology behind CLADE™ bioanalytics products

CLADE™ bioanalytics solutions bring together:
Sample analytics with the CLADE MIRATM Analyzer, based on mid-infrared FTIR spectroscopy
Data analytics within the CLADE™ Sphere ecosystem, based on chemometric software and proprietary algorithms
Together, they deliver answers on sample quality attributes, not just raw output.

A multi-attribute method for multiple sample insights
The CLADE™ MIRA Analyzer uses mid infrared FTIR spectroscopy to capture a detailed molecular fingerprint of a sample.
This fingerprint contains spectral information from IR-active compounds in the measured range. The data analytics tool CLADE™ Sphere processes the acquired spectra to quantify or compare multiple components in a sample, depending on the configured method.
This allows analytical teams to obtain quantitative and qualitative information on multiple quality attributes from a single, rapid measurement.
The CLADE™ workflow: from sample to endpoint data
CLADE™ technologies work in an integrated workflow to deliver clear analytical outputs with minimal user effort in instrument operation and data processing.

Mid-IR FTIR spectroscopy in aqueous solution, in transmission mode
The unique benefit of the MIRA Analyzer is its ability to capture the chemical fingerprint of samples directly in buffers, with reduced risk of surface-mediated artifacts.
Thanks to the patented technology AquaSpec™, the MIRA Analyzer works in transmission mode, in aqueous solutions.
This technological advancement strengthens the use case of mid-IR FTIR spectroscopy for biologics development and formulation analytics workflows, as you can analyse samples directly in your working buffer.

How transmission-mode spectroscopy works
In transmission mode, a sample is illuminated with light which passes through the sample. Specific functional groups of molecules absorb light energy at characteristic mid-IR frequencies (wavenumbers), which are related to their molecular vibrations.
The light that is not absorbed by the sample is measured by a detector and represented in a spectrum.

The resulting spectrum displays wavenumbers (cm⁻¹) on the horizontal axis and absorbance level on the vertical axis.

The software behind the MIRA Analyzer handles data preprocessing and subtracts the water background signal. This allows the resulting spectrum to reflect the sample’s chemical fingerprint.
AquaSpec™ technology for reproducible measurements
AquaSpec™ is CLADE’s patented technology for the transmission cell within the MIRA Analyzer. This innovation enables mid-IR FTIR measurements in aqueous buffers and collection of quality data that is highly reproducible across instruments, users, and locations.
The AquaSpec™ transmission cell presents a very narrow optical path length (under < 10 µm), which reduces the interaction between the IR light and the sample analysed. This feature is an important technological advancement that enables the unique benefits of this method for biologics development and formulation analytics.

Advanced data science for decision-ready results
The spectral data from the MIRA Analyzer is processed in advanced data analytics tools within the Sphere toolbox.
